Cat 5e Crossover patch cables have pins 1&2 and 3&6 crossed over and are normally used to connect two PCs without the use of a hub, or they can also be used to cascade two hubs without using an up-link port.
Some DSL modems actually require a cat 5e crossover cable to run to the PC or hub that they are connected to.
