How to Install Pre-Terminated Fibre

Installing pre-terminated fibre is much quicker and easier than field terminating fibre on site. By following a few simple steps you can ensure your fibre assembly is installed safely and performs as intended.

Unpack

Carefully unpack the pre-terminated fibre cable assembly. If supplied on a reel, remove the outer packaging and any protective wrapping.

Keep the test results sheet and any fixing hardware supplied with the cable.

If your cable includes a pulling eye, carefully remove any cable ties before deployment.

Deploy the Cable

Deploy the cable carefully, particularly with heavier armoured constructions.

Where possible, use cable rollers or an A-frame reel stand to avoid twisting or damaging the cable during installation.

Avoid exceeding the minimum bend radius and do not place excessive strain on the cable.

Remove the Protective Tubing

Once the cable is in position, remove the protective tubing or pulling sock if fitted.

Carefully loosen the retaining nuts and slide the protective tubing away to expose the terminated fibre tails.Take care not to kink or excessively bend the fibres during this process.

Install into the Patch Panel or Enclosure

Feed the cable into the patch panel, fibre enclosure or breakout box.

Secure the cable using the supplied gland or fixing hardware where applicable.

Arrange the fibre tails neatly and avoid tight bends or unnecessary strain on the connectors.

Connect the Fibre

Remove the dust caps only when you are ready to connect the fibre.

Avoid touching the connector end faces, as even small amounts of dirt or contamination can affect performance.

Insert the connectors carefully into the appropriate adaptors or equipment ports.
