What is AOC?
AOC is short for Active Optical Cable which is the latest in cabling technology. AOC removes the copper conductors and replaces them with fibre optical cores and a small transmitter and receiver in the connectors. Copper cores still remain to carry power along the cable.

Display Port cables vs VGA, DVI and HDMI cables
Display Port cable is a very powerful technology for connecting digital video interface especially included in newest computer hardware. It is being designed as a replacement for DVI and HDMI ports which is specifically targeted to computer-interfaces. It is capable of streaming HD video and audio simultaneously on same cable with 1920X1080 resolutions and 8 channel audio support. As it is a newest technology, so it is capable of supporting all latest and future systems with 4K (Ultra HD) display at 60 Hz. Although, it is a newer technology and only few monitors or TVs include Display Port connectors, still it is available in all new Mac, Dell, Lenovo, and HP computers. You can connect it to HDMI and DVI port using a suitable adapter. The display port cable can be used between a computer and a multi-stream monitor.Display Port VS VGA/DVI
The VGA connectors is the oldest video interface technology for connecting the devices and it only supports analog-based signals that has some display quality problems. Every time when images are transferred through VGA cable, the digital images have to be converted into analog by video card that greatly affect the picture quality of source image. So, Display Port is undoubtedly a better choice than VGA because it supports digital-based signals. The DVI port also supports digital-based signals but Display Port has numerous improvements over DVI. Firstly, Display Port support digital audio but DVI does not. Secondly, length of a Display Port cable can be extended up to 15 meters, while DVI cable has maximum supported length of only 5 meters. Other than this, there are much more improvements in a standard Display Port as compared to DVI.
It is very unfortunate that neither VGA, nor DVI is compatible with Display Port. You need an adapter, if you are connecting a VGA to a Display Port. The DVI and Display Port uses different signal processing methods so, a special adapter is needed to transfer data between both. Also, much Display Port hardware had some built-in adapter technologies for DVI-compatible formats to support DVI.
Display Port VS HDMI
The HDMI port is generally used in home theaters, video projectors, and TVs and its features are almost identical to Display Port. Both HDMI and Display Port support audio and video data, and both have HDCP content protection. But there are some differences that make Display Port as the ultimate display interface for computers. The maximum bandwidth supported by Display Port is 10.8 Gbps whereas, HDMI support only 10.2 Gbps. Display Port is an open standard hardware so it is available to all manufacturers at no cost. Additionally, the Display Port 1.2 standard support DPCP (Display Port content Protection) along with HDCP.Like DVI, the HDMI also suffers from incompatibility problem with Display Port. So, a separate adapter is required to connect HDMI port with Display Port or the Display Port hardware can have built-in adaptation technology to support HDMI. The HDMI is mainly targeted to consumer electronic applications such as Blu-ray players, projectors, and home theaters so it available with almost all consumer electronic devices. The Display Port is newest and better display technology so it is available with new computers and laptops along with HDMI ports.
How to choose Display Port
There are two standard versions of Display Port cable in the market, which are: Display Port 1.1 and Display Port 1.2. The Display Port 1.2 standard is an improvement in display port 1.1 standards and it includes some new capabilities like 4K display and multi-stream support. All Display Port cables are capable to support 4K display at 60 Hz and four 1080p display for multi-stream. Always choose a good quality Display Port cable as it has less data errors. The standard Display Port is commonly used in personal computer and laptop monitors. The small mini Display Port is also available in the market and it is generally used in notebook computers and Apple devices. All the new PCs are supporting Display Port in addition to HDMI port. HDMI still lead the market and most of the consumer laptops still offer only HDMI ports. But, all the new business-oriented models of PC will support Display Port because of its ability for multiple displays and superior picture quality. Display Port can be connected to nearly all type of monitor with an inexpensive adapter and its advantages over HDMI/DVI can’t be denied.
