What Is Singlemode Fibre?

Singlemode fibre uses a 9/125µm core and cladding construction, allowing light to travel over much greater distances than multimode fibre. It is commonly used for campus networks, telecoms infrastructure, data centres and other long-distance fibre optic installations.

Singlemode vs Multimode Fibre

Singlemode OS2 fibre is designed for longer distances and higher bandwidth requirements. Multimode fibre, including OM3 and OM4, is typically used for shorter-distance network links within buildings and data centres.
